What Is Capoeira?
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that blends martial arts, dance, acrobatics, music, and culture into one dynamic and expressive movement practice. Created by enslaved Africans in Brazil, it was disguised as a dance to preserve their traditions and resist oppression.
In a Capoeira class, you’ll move to the rhythm of traditional instruments like the berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro, while learning kicks, dodges, flows, and partner sequences. It's done in a circle called a roda, where two people play a physical game of movement and creativity, while others sing and clap around them.
Capoeira builds strength, flexibility, coordination, and rhythm—but just as importantly, it builds community, confidence, and connection.
Whether you're here to get in shape, explore culture, or try something new, Capoeira welcomes all levels. No experience needed—just curiosity and an open mind!
