About this event

  • 2 hours

We have one word for you: plastics. We are lucky to have two speakers at this hardware meetup, both with experience in injection molding. Come learn from their personal journeys with this manufacturing technique.

Brandon Gamm of PRIXEL Press will share lessons in quality control from a factory visit to Dongguan, China. "Before I took off, I kept wondering, 'Do I really need to be there?' The tooling was already made and fit dialed in. Still, the thought of possibly receiving 250,000 unusable PRIXEL sorts because I didn't care enough to visit kept nagging at me."

Sam Wechsler, an engineer and entrepreneur, will share his experiences with recycling 3D prints, how plastics extrusion works and how it applies to 3D printing and injection molding.

Agenda
6:30-7:00 - Arrival, mingle, grab refreshments
7:00-7:10 - Welcome and introduction
7:10-7:30 - Sam Wechsler - Plastic extrusion from recycled 3D printed plastics
7:30-7:50 - Brandon Gamm - Lessons from a site visit

7:50-8:30p - Community open mic! Anyone will have the chance for a 2min pitch to demo a prototype or talk about what they are working on.

Tech Valley Center of Gravity (501c3) is a makerspace, prototyping center, manufacturing incubator, STEAM education center, and creative community. In other words, we are a nonprofit that provides low-cost access to equipment, tools, technology and space, as well as business expertise, education and resources.

At our core is the Makerspace: 15,000 square feet of equipment, tools, work stations, and collaborative spaces. From metal shop to 3D printing, welding to woodshop, laser etching to electronics, community room to consultation corners: every zone and its equipment is designed to promote collaboration, boost creative confidence, and spark creativity.

While the Markerspace is the core, our Community is the Center of Gravity’s heart. We nurture a culture of inclusivity to enhance innovation among a community of enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and professionals of all ages, genders, ethnicities, interests, nationalities, life experiences and educational backgrounds. Courses, workshops, lectures and meet-ups ensure ongoing growth for participants. Affordable membership fees, our Community Outreach Fund, volunteer programs and internships ensure economic diversity, as well.

The THINQubator, our children's makerspace, engages new generations of makers and doers in creative expression and idea development through science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Many programs provide opportunities for families to grow together in these important subjects.

The Manufacturing Incubator at Tech Valley Center of Gravity provides expert coaching and incubation across industries, advisory services and support for product-related startups. For members launching entrepreneurial ventures, we offer resources for product development through the Prototyping Center, with its advanced manufacturing equipment and flexible workspace.
