CAPE COD NATIONAL SEASHORE LIFEGUARD ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONThe Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard program has been an integral part of the Cape since its inception in 1962. The Seashore’s lifeguards have been responsible for making the beaches safe for residents and visitors during the busy summer season. The Seashore employs 50 lifeguards to protect 6 ocean beaches from Marconi Beach in Wellfleet to Race Point Beach in Provincetown.In 2012, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Lifeguard program and in recognition of this milestone we formed a non-profit service organization called the Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard Alumni Association (CCNSLAA).Our mission includes continued community outreach concerning beach and sun safety, support of the current guards as well as the CCNS Junior Lifeguard program, and to grow a scholarship fund.What we do:Visit beaches to distribute our beach safety flyers and talk to visitors about ocean safetyHost the Cape Cod Lifeguard Challenge series, Wednesdays in July at Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet. These competitive events help to improve the performance of our ocean lifeguards through training and skill development while building camaraderie among the Cape lifeguards.Host the Cape Cod Outer Beach Run in August, a half marathon in the sand offering a beautiful and challenging course for individual and team entries.We welcome your attendance and support at these events.For more information and to make a tax deductible contribution please contact:Gordon O. CCNS Lifeguard Alumni Association

Join us for an amazing run along the Cape Cod National Seashore! Run 13.1 miles on the beach as an individual or as a member of a relay team, and witness the beauty of the outer Cape coastline.
We are pleased to be adding a beach WALK to the event this year!  The WALK is approximatey 5 miles, starting at Ballston Beach in Truro.
Awards, raffles, and refreshments will immediately follow the race! 
RACE ROUTE: Marconi Beach to Lecount Hollow Beach 2.4 miles Lecount Hollow Beach to Newcomb Hollow Beach 3.1 miles Newcomb Hollow Beach to Ballston Beach 2.8 miles Ballston Beach to Head of Meadow Beach finish line 4.8 miles
The full course is estimated to be 13.1 miles, making it a very unofficial half marathon. Please prepare for challenging soft sand conditions and anticipate a much slower pace than one might expect on trails or pavement.
The Cape Cod Outer Beach Run was started by the Cape Cod National Seashore Lifeguard Alumni Association to honor Anne Haggerty. Anne was a dedicated CCNS Lifeguard for 18 summers who sadly lost her battle with melanoma. While lifeguarding at Race Point Beach in 1991, Anne ran the entire length of the CCNS. 
Proceeds support melanoma awareness and a memorial scholarship fund.

The new moon low tide should expose plenty of beach as you make your way along the beautiful Cape Cod National Seashore.  IMPACT Melanoma (www.impactmelanoma.org) is providing a sunscreen dispenser for the event as well as lip balm and UV bracelets.
