ABOUT THE WORK

Capacity, or: the Work of Crackling is an immersive, outdoor dance experience and a brand-new multi-disciplinary work developed through collaborations of music, sound and dance. It is Kinesis Project dance theatre's most recent large-scale collaboration with Opera on Tap investigating our human capacity for joy, grief and how that relates to the natural processes of the earth's cracking.

Capacity, or: The Work of Crackling is an expansive, yet intimate theatrical experience that will draw and guide audiences along the pathways, breathtaking view and varied landscapes of the historic Maury Island Nature Area/aka Vashon Gravel Pit.

Where do I park?

There are two parking options: 1. Follow directions to Vashon Gravel Road, off of 260th St. Make the left turn on to Gravel Pit Road, follow up to parking 2. Use the Dockton Forest Trailhead Parking on 260th St, directly across the way is a trailhead.

When will parking be available and how long will the hikes in take?

Parking at the Dockton Forest Trailhead Lot will be available starting 1 hour before show time. We suggest allowing 30 minutes for the overlook pass, and 20 minutes for the inner, forest path.

I want to make an afternoon of it. How do I find the Hikes in?

To take the more direct forest path, enter the trail head across from the parking lot, follow it to the right, and then at the large tree in a circle of paths, follow the path to the right again. To take the Overlook Path, follow the path to the left. At Gravel Pit Road, make a left.

Will there be someone to guide me?

We will have signs and both Park's staff members and show day volunteers to guide you toward parking options or hiking trails. ** We will NOT provide a guide for the hiking trail.

Are there restrooms?

There are portapotties at the Trailhead parking lot. If you are coming from the Ferry, we suggest padding your time so you can stop into Vashon Center for the Arts, enjoy the art in the galleries, and use the restroom. VCA is open from 12-5pm.
