A live, online series with Music Director Matthew Mehaffey and special guests. Five Wednesdays, starting July 8 at 8PM EDT/7PM CDT
About this event
Music has power, whether it is to reveal truths from a diverse set of voices, or to perpetuate the status quo. Music - particularly vocal music - has the innate ability promote the most important and enduring elements of culture. This exciting new series seeks to explore with you the intersection of music and culture and the issues that concern us all during this time of societal change on many levels.
The five-week event is a collaboration between the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP) and the Oratorio Society of Minnesota (OSM). Matthew Mehaffey, Music Director of both MCP and OSM, and a diverse group of leaders in the choral world will host an interactive online discussion centered around a trending topic in choral music (see the weekly schedule on our websites). You are invited to participate by reviewing the reading and listening materials beforehand (optional), and engaging in the live chat with your questions and comments.
Because we believe singing itself releases creativity and a spirit of openness, a brief vocal warm-up will begin each session. Not a singer? No problem! Only our vocal coach will be on camera and audio, so even if you’re usually a shy singer, you can feel free to let your voice soar!
This is a free series courtesy of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and the Oratorio Society of Minnesota. Registration is not required, but encouraged. Click the green "Register" bar to the right to register once for the entire series, then mark your calendar so you don't miss a single week.
You can join each discussion LIVE on the Mendelssohn’s Facebook page and YouTube channel or the Oratorio Society's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Check our website often for updates and everything you need to know to get involved.
We look forward to seeing you!
