About this event

  • 4 hours

Join us for a trip on Big Pine Creek! We’ll journey down one of western Indiana's most prominent watersheds to learn about the habitat that this environment provides as well as the work being done to preserve it.

We'll begin our excursion at NICHES Land Trust's Warren Piece conservation property before getting on the water. After the float, we'll conclude the program with a shared meal and discussion around a campfire.

Our float will be led by Seth Harden from The Nature Conservancy, who serves as the organization's Upper Wabash River project director. Indiana Humanities will provide all rafting materials, including life vests and oars. In addition to the equipment, your ticket price includes a campfire meal, Upland Brewing Company beers and snacks.

WHERE: NICHES Land Trust's Warren Piece Conservation Easement

WHEN: Friday, September 20, 2024, 5 p.m.– 9 p.m. EDT

SCHOLAR-FACILITATORS: Seth Harden

FLOAT DIFFICULTY: Moderate; attendees must be able to enter and exit a raft under their own power as well as to paddle down a river for up to three hours.

ABOUT CAMPFIRES

Indiana Humanities’ award-winning Campfires program pairs nature and literature to spark conversations about Indiana’s future. Something about the combination of wild places, great writing, a warm campfire and cold beer gets Hoosiers talking in fresh and surprising ways about the world around us and our place in it.

ABOUT INDIANA HUMANITIES

Indiana Humanities will make reasonable modifications to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy our programs. If you need an accommodation, please email Sam Opsahl at sopsahl@indianahumanities.org.
