Camp Kindness

Mommies In Need provides in-home childcare to stay-at-home parents going through a health crisis. We not only fund nannies for sick moms, but also provide them with someone who is vetted, background checked, CPR certified, and experienced in dealing with situations when a parent is suddenly ill. All completely free of charge to the families.

What: Local Dallas non-profits Mommies In Need and Pamper Lake Highlands are joining forces to create a one-of-a-kind summer camp that is all about teaching our children the many ways they can give back to their community and show everyday kindness to the people and the world around them. Each of the six camp days will be it’s own mini-camp with a daily theme (see FAQ for details) and activities from non-profits focusing on areas like environment and nutrition, homelessness, inclusion of people with disabilities, and helping our local and global communities. 
Where: The Pamper Lake Highlands childcare activity center at Forest Meadow Baptist Church, 9150 Church Rd, Dallas, Tx
Who: Caren Bright, Founder of Pamper Lake Highlands,and Natalie Boyle, Founder of Mommies In Need, will be facilitating the camp and creating the curriculium. The nannies of Mommies In Need will be the teachers at the camp. They are all background-checked, CPR certified, and trained to our high standards. Several of our on-site nannies have teaching certifications and backgrounds in children’s education.
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-2pm July 5-21, 2016. The final day of camp, Thursday, July 21, will conclude with a Kindness Celebration from 1-2pm featuring a camper-made and run Lemonade Stand to benefit The Stewpot and bake sale (all baked goods will be made during camp, no outside parent envolvement required!) as well as glitter tatoos, balloons, face painting and more! 
Ages: We will have camper groups with age appropriate activities for the day’s theme for ages 3-6 and 7-9.  Kids 9 and older are welcome at camp and will serve as “Camp Leaders” in the classrooms. They have the opportunity to learn leadership skills by aiding the younger children and earn service hour credit for their schools if applicable.  
How Much: $45/child per day ages 3-9; $30 per day for “Camp Leaders” ages 9-17
Other Details: You may choose to participate in one or all the days of camp but all campers and their families are welcome at our Kindness Celebration on July 21st from 1-2pm. You will get a chance to view all of the amazing service projects your children have been a part of and visit with representatives from the organizations to learn about their work and additional volunteer opportunities.
All children must be 3 and older and fully potty trained. Please pack a nut free lunch for your child. 
We have several children from Pamper Lake Highlands and Mommies In Need who would like to attend the camp.  If you would like to Sponsor a child to participate in this camp who otherwise would not be able to afford to do so, you can make a donation in the field below.  $45 sponsors one child for a day of camp.

Tuesday, July 5: Fill a Bucket: Showing Kindness in Every Day Life
          We will be reading and playing games related to the book series "Fill A Bucket" about teaching children kindess.  We will also do a crafty service project for <A HREF="http://mommiesinneed.org" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mommies In Need</A> and will be making yummy treats to share with people we love with Caren from <A HREF="http://www.pamperlakehighlands.org" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pamper Lake Highlands</A>.
Thursday, July 7: Showing Kindness to the World Around Us
           We will be playing some fun games with an African jungle theme and reading a book about ways to show kindness around the world.  Our service project for the day will be with<A HREF="http://www.paperforwater.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Paper For Water</A> making origami creations to help fund wells in 3rd world countries.  We will also have a visit from <A HREF="https://congorestoration.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Congo Restoration'</A>s founder and make bead necklaces and bracelets with <A HREF="http://akolaproject.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Akola Project</A> while learning about the great work that this non-profit does in Uganda.  
Tuesday, July 12: Sharing and Caring
            This camp will start with a "Share the Load" relay race and some age-appropriate books about the joy that sharing with those around you can bring.  Our service project this day will to be to make blessing bags that each child can bring home with them to leave in the car and give out when they see people in need.  We will also have representatives from non-profits focused on Hunger and Homelessness to lead activities and discussions with the kids about this difficult subject and the ways that they can help.
Thursday, July 14: Planting Seeds, Sharing and Caring Part 2.
            The theme for this camp will be planting seeds both literally (their service project will be helping to harvest seeds from the soil) and figuratively (planting the seeds of knowing good nutrition and being aware of their environmental impact.  <A HREF="http://www.citysquare.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CitySquare</A> will be taking the kids through some fun activities including learning how to compost the remains of their lunches and playing games related to learning the building blocks of healthy eating. We will also have <A HREF="http://skyviewgarden.blogspot.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Skyview Harmony Garden</A> coming to discuss sustainable gardening and <A HREF="http://childrenshungerfund.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Children's Hunger Fund</A> teaching the kids about how they can make a big impact by doing small things to help address hunger in Dallas.
Tuesday, July 19: Amazing Over-Comers
              This camp will bring in a variety of people to guide the kids through fun activities like face-painting, crafts, and a special karate session from Pro-Martial Arts Lakewood.  All of the people who will be leading the activities also happen to have a disability of some sort.  For example, the karate instructor is a man who was born with only one arm, but did not let that stop his dream of pursuing Martial Arts. The focus of the day is to show the kids how these people have overcome their obstacles and can still do amazing things.  We will read age-appropriate books about people with disabilities and the importance of inclusion and give kids a safe and comfortable environment to ask questions.  We will also send some resources home to prepare parents for additional questions from their children. 
Thursday, July 21: Kindness Celebration
            This final day of camp will give the students a chance to play some of their favorite games from previous sessions as well as to help prepare for the kindness celebration.  They will be making lemonade and treats to sell, crafting a Lemonade Stand and decorations for the event, and each be assigned an important "job" for the celebration.  Older kids may be in charge of helping talk about a certain non-profit they felt connected to and our younger campers can help pour lemonade and collect donations for The Stewpot.  The celebration will be from 1-2 and all families who have been a part of any day of camp are welcome to attend.
What should my child bring to camp?
All children should bring a small bag with a change of clothes, water bottle and lunch.  Please label all items with your childs first and last name. Camp Kindness is a nut-free environment, please make sure not to pack any nut products in lunches.  Weather permitting we will spend some time outside every day so please apply sunscreen and bug spray before camp.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Please email info@mommiesinneed.org for any qustions.  Alll families will recieve a detailed instruction sheet by email once tickets are purchased.  This will also include the phone number to call for any questions or needs the day of camp.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
We will not issue any refunds, however, we are happy to transfer your registration to a different day provided that space is available.  If your child is not able to attend any other camp day, we will use your ticket price to sponsor a child from Pamper Lake Highlands or Mommies In Need to attend and you will be issued a tax-deductilon letter for that donation.
Will there be kids from Mommies In Need or Pamper Lake Highlands there?
Yes! One of our goals with this camp is to bridge the gap between kids who can afford to go to summer camp days and those to whom this type of event would otherwise be out of reach.  We believe that exposure to diversity is a big part of kids learning kindness.  We will invite as many children from the Mommies In Need and the Pamper Lake Highlands programs as possible based on our sponsorships.
Can I Sponsor a Child for Camp Kindness?
Yes! Any donations made through Eventbrite will go to sponsoring kids for camp.  You can also make a check out to Mommies In Need with a note reading "Camp Kindness Sponsorship" and mail to 8150 N Central Expressway, Suite 1625 Dallas, Tx 75206.
