About this event

Join art historian and curator Catherine Hess on a tour of the groundbreaking exhibition “Camille Claudel” at the Getty. Although Claudel was one of late nineteenth-century France's most daring sculptors, outside her native country she is mainly known for her love affair with Rodin, struggles for acceptance in a man’s profession, and 30-year confinement in a psychiatric institution. This brilliant exhibition rightly focuses on her enormous artistic talents which couple virtuosic mastery of medium with modernity of conception. Roughly 60 sculptures are on display, including a remarkable bronze in the Getty’s collection that is now presented in illuminating context.
