Discover the benefits of using muscle tension and release to add calm and relaxation to your daily routine.

Meditation practices can be difficult for some of us: clear our minds? Think of nothing? Sounds impossible! Certain meditation practices may feel unreachable or limiting to a busy mind and a full schedule. But there are lots of different types of meditation practices, and it’s important to find what works for you. Using the tensing and releasing of our muscles through the practice of progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) can be a beneficial, soothing, and accessible practice to seek calm. Join Rachel Merchan, LCSW, to practice this welcoming and calming relaxation strategy and explore the benefits of utilizing muscle tension and release to enhance mood and well-being. Rachel will highlight the importance of using these practices as part of a routine relaxation strategy.Registration is required. This program will be an audio-only program over Zoom, to allow you to fully engage with the practice and close your eyes if you choose. A link will be emailed out prior to the program. If you cannot attend the live event, it recommended you register to receive the program recording. For questions, please email chl@northwell.edu.About our Presenter:Rachel Merchan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Community Outreach Program Manager at Northern Westchester Hospital. She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Skidmore College and her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Rachel has worked in numerous hospitals and healthcare organizations, specializing in HIV care management, HIV prevention and sexual health counseling, and substance use counseling. She has provided training and education to clinical sites and healthcare providers about HIV testing and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). Rachel is trained in Problem Solving Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. She is committed to serving communities whose primary language is Spanish, and practices in both English and Spanish.
