Session #3  of the Community Care & Repair Workshop Series

As we learn and grow in our capacity to understand the intersectionality between colonialism, racism, capitalism and climate change, we seek to make our communities more inclusive and accountable. When someone’s behaviour does not uphold these values, we often react in ways that are intended to shame or punish. In this session, we will learn how to disrupt our impulse to shame and blame and shift from strategies that punish to strategies that invite accountability. This workshop is offered through the gift economy (see below for details) and tickets are free. About the Facilitator: Leonie Smith, Necessary Trouble Collective Co-Founder &amp; Lead TrainerP. Leonie Smith (she/her) is a first-generation Canadian of Jamaican heritage and is founder of The Thoughtful Workplace, a consultancy that uses a relational and skill-building approach to coaching, training, and mediation. Informed by modalities such as nonviolent communication and Sociocracy, she is dedicated to supporting organisations and individuals to find ways of working that create more space for humanity and generate less harm. She has more than 20 years of experience in senior management positions championing an approach to leadership that supports care and efficiency towards a shared purpose. ********************* What is the Community Care &amp; Repair Workshop Series? Hosted by the Necessary Trouble Collective and Freeskool, the Community Care &amp; Repair Workshop Series is an online offering to our beloved community. These 5 sessions offered on a gift economy basis are grounded in principles of nonviolence and collective liberation. We intend them to be spaces for people working in social justice and climate justice movements and their intersections to gather, receive care and support, and learn skills that attend to burnout and disconnection. Attendees are welcome to attend any or all sessions as they will be offered independently of one another. The first 4 sessions of the series will be recorded and available to registrants afterwards. We welcome contributions through the gift economy. Participants are invited to contribute what they can in order to ensure that costs of our offerings are covered and the work of our facilitators is properly compensated. Our current need is $500 per session and our suggested donation is $15-30 - no amount is considered too small or too large. We provide this financial transparency so that you can be informed on your choice about how much to gift. Sorry, we cannot provide a tax receipt for your contribution. We strive to maintain an anti-oppressive space and we ask all participants to be allies in this effort. The Gift Economy is a radical change in our relationship to money where goods and services are not sold. There is no fee to participate in the Community Care &amp; Repair Workshop Series - this ensures that there are no financial barriers and all are welcome. While we do not expect any payment from attendees, voluntary gifting ensures that we are able to pay these teachings forward and can continue to offer our services to others in the future. At the same time, we do have financial needs as organizations operating within the current economy. To address these needs, we invite all who participate in our program to consider supporting our work by making a financial contribution. No one is required to give. We only intend this giving to be done in response to our needs and we only take what we need to sustain ourselves and our work. Contributions should be in proportion to your ability to give. We are offering our work as a contribution to the world we want for all. If this work is needed, we will receive the financial support we need to continue. If our work is not needed, we don't want to divert resources from where they are needed. When considering how much to gift, we encourage attendees to reflect on:- My level of wealth- Do I have enough money for all my basic needs (nutritious food, transportation, health care, emergency funds, etc.). Do I rent or own my home? Do I have money for retirement? Do I support others besides myself? Am I likely to inherit money?-The benefit I expect from participation - Did I learn a lot from this offering? Has it contributed to my ability to live in greater alignment with my values? Have I participated in similar programs? And if so, what did I pay for those?-The value to me of supporting others to access this program - If more people participated in this program would it help to build the kind of world I am longing for?- Could I contribute more, and subsidize another participant? Am I part of a privileged group, and could therefore contribute more to compensate BIPOC facilitators? ********************* Want more information?
