Join us for a Calligraphy & Sip class led by The Well’s artist-in-residence, David Chang. David is a renowned artist based in NYC who has dedicated the last 20 years to mastering the art of western calligraphy.

In this 1.5 hour beginner session, you will learn the fundamentals of classic penmanship - a skill that enhances journaling, personal correspondence, and mindfulness practices.

We will begin with a few minutes of grounding breathwork and affirming words to center ourselves. Then, we’ll practice letter tracing using our beginner's calligraphy kit. To wrap up the session, you'll have the chance to write a meaningful word or phrase that you can take home as a personal keepsake.

Whether you're looking to enhance your skills or try something new, this class will empower you to tap into your authentic creative expression and give you the space to connect with fellow art enthusiasts in meaningful ways.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

David Chang is a renowned artist who has pursued the art of western calligraphy for the past 20 years. His masterful study of calligraphy is driven by a passion for “bringing the essence of a word or message to life.” Chang's calligraphic mark —vacillating between traditional scripts and contemporary abstraction— issues statements of personal, cultural, and spiritual awareness while retaining a formal beauty full of urgency and redemption.

His work has appeared in numerous shows and institutions, including Onishi Gallery, Clemente Soto Velez Center, Waterfall Mansion, Pratt Institute, Calvary Saint George’s, and the Society of Scribes at the National Arts Club. Notably, his calligraphy has also been prominently featured in the internationally acclaimed film mother! (2017).
