The Climate Registry (TCR) will provide an overview of the Water-Energy Nexus Registry and its benefits with East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) sharing their successes and challenges of using the Water-Energy Nexus 2.0 to prepare a greenhouse gas inventory at a large water and wastewater utility.

About the Presenters

Chris Dembiczak is a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist working for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), a water and wastewater utility based out of Oakland, CA serving 1.4 million drinking water customers and 740,000 wastewater customers. He oversees the environmental compliance program for the Wastewater Department, prepares the annual EBMUD greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, and is involved with Climate Action Planning for EBMUD. Chris has a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is currently participating in the Bay Area Clean Water Agencies Permit Committee and Air Committee as well as the Water Research Foundation Planning Summit on Addressing GHGs. Chris served on the WEN Registry Advisory Committee and Wastewater Working Group during its inception.

Jaya Mapleton is a sustainability programs associate at The Climate Registry (TCR). She provides technical GHG reporting assistance to over 200 members of the Carbon Footprint Registry and the Water-Energy Nexus Registry. Prior to TCR, Jaya worked in monitoring and evaluations for a conservation nonprofit, where she collaborated closely with teams in Central and South America. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography/Environmental Studies from UCLA where she fell in love with the power of spatial analysis.
