About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Join us at Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles for a screening of three student-directed short films, the culmination of the Spring 2025 semester of the innovative California State Los Angeles course Community Impact Media. These short documentary films spotlight the transformative work of Contra Tiempo, Able ARTS Work, and Inner-City Arts—organizations dedicated to expanding access to art and fostering community engagement.

This semester’s focus was inspired by the exhibition ‘George Rouy. The Bleed, Part II’ at Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles. George Rouy has emerged as a leading figure among his generation of painters, giving form to a distinctive dynamism that characterizes key experiences of contemporary life. His paintings explore human mass, multiplicity and movement, reflecting the tensions between individuals and their environments, as well as the conflicts and harmonies among individuals and groups.

Through their short documentaries, this semester’s student filmmakers will examine themes of identity, performance, movement and the body, responding to the themes of Rouy’s exhibition.

This event is free to attend and open to the public, however, due to limited seating, reservations are recommended.

About Community Impact Media
Community Impact Media, a shared project between the university and the gallery, provides neighboring youth with hands-on media making and storytelling mentorship toward the production of video projects written and directed by the student filmmakers. It not only encourages students to reimagine the role of filmmakers as neighbors and citizens committed to meaningful social change but also illustrates each organization’s commitment to engage and develop a positive, lasting relationship with their shared LA community.

Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, a vibrant communal space in the Arts District that links art and architecture with a dynamic events program, is the first West Coast outpost of Hauser & Wirth, the international gallery devoted to contemporary art and modern masters. Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles fosters public dialogue with the arts by supporting and collaborating with local nonprofits and universities, as well as through a range of activities that engage the city’s diverse population.

The gallery aims to make a lasting contribution to the Los Angeles community by sharing its resources and offering a variety of family, youth, and adult programs inspired by the gallery’s visionary artists. The Los Angeles location has expanded its events program to include dance and music performances, film screenings, family activities, maker workshops, and artist-led conversations.

Occupying a former flour mill, the Los Angeles gallery site includes Manuela, the onsite restaurant, a chicken coop and urban garden, and murals celebrating the Arts District’s history. Additionally, the site is home to the first ARTBOOK store in Los Angeles, the Gallery Shop, which offers a curated selection of hand-crafted products, and Hauser & Wirth Publishers’ Book & Printed Matter Lab.
