After nearly 2 decades representing California’s 53rd District, Susan Davis is retiring. On March 3rd, 2020, voters in this district will need to decide between a large number of candidates in the primary election. This debate is to help voters get to know the leading progressive candidates* in order to make an informed vote.This debate will be moderated by Chris Jennewein, Editor and Publisher of &quot;Times of San Diego.&quot; The moderator will ask questions crafted with input from the community, via suggested questions submitted with RSVPs.The candidates at this debate will be: (in alphabetical order)<ul><li>Jose Caballero</li><li>Janessa Goldbeck</li><li>Georgette Gomez</li><li>Sara Jacobs</li><li>Joaquin Vazquez</li></ul>Schedule:<ul><li>4:30 - 5:00pm Doors open for check in</li><li>5:00 - 7:00pm Debate (with a 5 minute break at the hour mark)</li><li>7:00 - 7:30 Time to mingle and chat with the candidates</li></ul>This event has limited capacity so please register to reserve your spot, to submit questions to our moderator, and to indicate need for childcare, translation, and accommodations.*There are more candidates running for this seat, but in order to narrow down the numbers and allow for in-depth questions and responses, we have invited candidates who had raised at least $6000 via donations of $200 or less, according to FEC filings as of Dec. 1st. Other candidates from this seat are welcome to table at the end of the debate, meet voters, and pass out materials. There are so many candidates in this race! Please reach out to coordinate with our team if you are interested.A note on fundraising:Indivisible is a grassroots community organization focused on informing and engaging citizens so that they can more effectively participate in their democracy. A coalition of local Indivisible groups** in District 53 is collaborating on organizing and hosting this debate.
