While he may be little known to most of us, Renaissance composer William Byrd&#x27;s music has a hauntingly beautiful quality which is not to be missed. Come and experience it firsthand in the glorious acoustics of Most Holy Redeemer - Nativity Church in the heart of the East Village. Performers include acclaimed husband-and-wife duo Charlie and Elizabeth Weaver plus vocalists Terrence Fay and Grant Herreid. The program will include sacred pieces and devotional songs. Open to all; suggested donation $20. Reception to follow in the church&#x27;s garden. About the PerformersElizabeth Baber Weaver has been praised by the Washington Post for her “angelic brightness and dedication” and the “remarkable clarity” of her declamation, and the New York Times called her singing “truly lovely.” She has appeared as a soloist with the Masterwork Chorus, Voices of Ascension, Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity, TENET, Elm City Consort, Ensemble Viscera, the New York Consort of Viols, Mountainside Baroque, Music in the Somerset Hills, Guido’s Ear, Hesperus, Parthenia, Ex Umbris, and in the revival of The Play of Daniel at the Cloisters. She has performed and recorded masterpieces of Renaissance music as a member of the vocal chamber group Pomerium. She has also appeared as a guest artist with the acclaimed quartet New York Polyphony, including their Grammy-nominated album Sing thee Nowell. She is a member of the professional Schola Cantorum at St. Mary’s Church, Norwalk, Connecticut, which recently released the world premiere recording of the 16th-century Mass Christe Jesu by William Rasar. She serves as Assistant Director of St. Mary’s Schola Juventutum and directs a women’s schola. She also teaches Music in the Lower School at Regina Pacis Academy in Norwalk.Charles Weaver is on the faculty of the Juilliard School, where he teaches performance practice and historical music theory, and is a member of the joint faculty of Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has been assistant conductor for Juilliard Opera and has participated in opera productions at the University of Maryland, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Princeton University, Yale University, and the Boston Early Music Festival. As a collaborative musician, he has performed with the Orchestra of St. Luke&#x27;s, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Virginia Symphony. In addition to being a regular member of the ensemble Quicksilver, his chamber-music projects have included engagements with Piffaro, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Folger Consort, Apollo&#x27;s Fire, Blue Heron, the Newberry Consort, and Musica Pacifica. He is organist and choirmaster at St. Mary&#x27;s Church in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he specializes in the liturgical performance of medieval and renaissance music. He holds a PhD in music theory from the City University of New York. His research interests include the rhythm of Gregorian chant and the history of the theory of harmony.Elizabeth and Charles made their debut as a duo at the 2004 Baltimore Shakespeare Festival with a program of songs from the plays of Shakespeare. The following year, their artist recital of 16th-century Spanish song at the Washington Early Music Festival met with a rave review from the Washington Post, which praised their “impeccable performances” and “imagination in programming.” They have since presented programs of Renaissance song in venues around the country, and have collaborated with ensembles such as New York Polyphony and Parthenia, a Consort of Viols. Charles and Elizabeth married in 2008 and live in Connecticut with their four children.Lauded as a “musical polymath” by the New London Day, Terrence B. Fay’s career as a tenor vocalist has spanned more than two decades, performing repertoire spanning a millennium. He has been a soloist most recently with the Eastern Connecticut and New Haven Symphony Orchestras, as well as Con Brio Choral Society, Capella Cantorum, and the Greater Middletown Chorale. He made his operatic debut in 2017 as Spoletta in Connecticut Lyric Opera’s production of Puccini’s Tosca. He is currently a member of the Schola Cantorum of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Norwalk, CT. Mr. Fay is also an active professional trombonist. He is currently principal trombonist of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and has previously held positions with the New Haven, New Britain, and Wallingford Symphonies, as well as the orchestra of Opera Theater of Connecticut. He has also performed recently with the Ridgefield, Norwalk, and Greater Bridgeport Symphonies, among others. Mr. Fay is currently on the faculty of Southern Connecticut State University and the University of New Haven, while also teaching at Summit Studios in Manchester and in the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra Music Mentor Program.Grant Herreid has performed on early reeds, brass, strings and voice with many early music ensembles. A noted teacher and educator, he is a recipient of Early Music America’s Laurette Goldberg award for excellence in early music outreach and education. On the faculty at Yale University, he leads the Yale Collegium Musicum and the Yale Baroque Opera Project (YBOP). Grant also directs the New York Continuo Collective, and devotes much of his time to exploring the esoteric unwritten traditions of Renaissance music with the ensembles Ex Umbris and Ensemble Viscera.About the Venue The Parish of Most Holy Redeemer was founded in 1844 by German-speaking Redemptorist missionaries serving New York City’s large German immigrant population. Like many other sites in the East Village, its history can be traced back to a time when the area was known as Kleindeustchland or Little Germany. The current church was designed by the Munich architect, Joseph Walch, and construction was completed in October 1851. A Catholic publication of the day called Most Holy Redeemer “the most beautiful and largest (church) in New York,” and it soon earned popular acclaim as &quot;The German Cathedral of the Lower East Side.”
