Buttonbush Trash Clean Up

Buttonbush Trash Clean Up

Birch Brook RoadCortlandt, NY
Saturday, Mar 21 from 10 am to 12 pm
Overview

Join WLT Staff for a volunteer workday to help restore habitat at Buttonbush Preserve.

Preserve Manager Ben and Conservation Tech Stella need YOUR help getting Buttonbush Preserve ready to open in the coming year! We will be celebrating with a big ole' trash clean up! It’s going to be a great opportunity to make new friends, work together to improve the community, and connect with our beautiful preserve!

Day + Time: Saturday, March 21, 2026, 10am–12pm.

Getting There + Parking: Street parking is available on Birch Brook Road. Coordinates for the parking area are 41.320585, -73.907203. Carpooling is encouraged.

Accessibility: Less than half a mile of off-trail hiking required. No prior volunteer experience needed. Tools and light snacks will be provided. Safety: Please wear long pants, long sleeves, and close-toed shoes to the event, and consider dressing in layers and bringing a water bottle. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Registration is required, no drop ins please.

I regularly find myself humming (or full-blown singing at the top of my lungs if I’m by myself) songs that get stuck in my head while working in preserves, so I thought I’d try writing my very own stewardship song using the absolute BANGER “My Favorite Things” as a baseline…Because let’s be real, taking care of nature preserves with volunteers is one of my favorite things.

(add musical notes)

Dragging out tires through brambles and branches

Pulling invasives in stubborn old patches

Finding more trash I can’t comprehend

Who even litters and when will it enddddd?

Discarded fridges and carpet in piles

All taken by hand I must haul them for miles

Engine blocks so rusted they start to decay

Wondering who thought dumping this was okay

When my back hurts

And my boots sink

Deep into the stream

I look around at all my volunteers

And feel thankful to be part of this team.
