Butterfly Effect

Dance Mission connects and empowers diverse Bay Area communities and artists through all aspects of dance and dance theater, including the production of new works, instruction, and performance. We are an artist-driven, feminist organization dedicated to building community, addressing social justice issues, exploring cultural identities, promoting inclusivity, and creating a more peaceful world through collective action.  Many female artists, artists of color, and culturally specific ensembles consider Dance Mission to be their artistic home. Master teachers of dance and music have created a thriving inter-generational community celebrating cultural traditions, welcoming students of all backgrounds. Dance Mission is also the home of Krissy Keefer’s Dance Brigade, San Francisco’s groundbreaking, feminist social-change modern dance company.

Dance Brigade is pleased to announce its latest evening-length dance work, Butterfly Effect, which takes on the climate crisis. Created and directed by Krissy Keefer, the title is a nod to the idea that small actions can have far-reaching consequences. Featuring a live musical score by Bruce Ghent, Butterfly Effect pays tribute to the devastatingly large number of activists that have been silenced, often brutally, because they have spoken truth to power. With eight dancers and six drummers, this large scale project will wind through the studios inside Dance Mission Theater, the audience immersed in three distinct worlds, and met with dance, percussion, light, video, poetry, and social commentary. (Please note that there is no late seating, please arrive 10 minutes early.) * General admission: $26 in advance ($30 at the door)
* Reserved seating: $40 
* We have a very limited number of "low income" tickets available at $15. Please keep these available for those that need to them. 
* Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended as there are a very limited number of seats available for each performance.
