CulturalDC has made a name for itself in providing a platform for bold contemporary artists to interact with audiences in thought-provoking ways. Previous exhibitions include “Ivanka Vacuuming” by Jennifer Rubell, “THIS IS NOT A DRILL” by Jefferson Pinder, and “Mighty, Mighty” by Devan Shimoyama. CulturalDC owns Source Theatre and a 40-ft shipping container transformed into a Mobile Art Gallery. Nyugen E. Smith’s Capital Artist Residency culminates with performances at CulturalDC's Source Theatre and an exhibition in the CulturalDC's Mobile Art Gallery.

This exhibition in the Mobile Art Gallery will feature work created during Nyugen’s stay in Washington, DC. Artist InformationNyugen E. Smith is a Caribbean-American interdisciplinary artist based in Jersey City, NJ. Through performance, found object sculpture, mixed media drawing, painting, video, photo, and writing, Smith deepens his knowledge of the historical and present-day conditions of Black African descendants in the diaspora. Trauma, spiritual practices, language, violence, memory, architecture, landscape, and climate change are primary concerns in his practice.
