Building Hugger Community Mingle (2nd Annual)
Join us February 25 for the second annual Community Mingle at our Eastern Market shop. We are once again partnering with Brick + Beam Detroit as well as Preservation Detroit and the Michigan Historic Preservation Network. Together, they will provide policy updates related to historic preservation and lead guests in a postcard writing effort in support of the Federal Historic Tax Credit, which is under threat. Without the tax credit, many commercial rehabilitation projects in Detroit and the jobs they support would not be possible. Staff from all three organizations will be on hand talk about their programming, share their work and answer questions.
Building Hugger is excited to showcase recent shop renovations and will provide an update on the company's plans to open Hugs Hardware, a specialty hardware store and showroom for hard-to-find restoration items. The shop will be open for guests to visit various work stations and see the Building Hugger team in action. Owner Amy Swift will also lead a demonstration focused on the company's window restoration work.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
- 11:00 a.m. - Doors open
- 11:30 p.m. - Welcome from Building Hugger and policy update and remarks from preservation partners
- 1:30 p.m. - Demonstration begins
- 3:00 p.m. - End
Guests are invited to drop in throughout the afternoon, but please RSVP!
Refreshments will be provided.
