Description

Registration begins at 7:30 AM, class runs from 8 AM - 5 PM with 1 hour for lunch. Please be sure to bring your lunch/snacks with you as unfortunately we cannot provide meals.

This course is designed to train students for successful participation in the Building Envelope Pilot Program. We will review the pilot program requirements and procedures, as well as code requirements for insulation installation and describe the importance of insulation for home performance and comfort.

A brief quiz will be given at the end of training, so that students may demonstrate their knowledge on the following Learning Objectives:

  • Identify homes that are good candidates for air sealing and insulation upgrades and those that have potential health & safety issues
  • identify various types of combustion appliances
  • define the building envelope and identify the qualities of effective and ineffective building envelopes in homes
  • define the methods of heat transfer
  • understand and have the ability to explain the relationship between air sealing and insulation performance
  • explain the fundamental properties of air movement in homes and describe the importance of effective attic air sealing to improve home performance, durability and comfort
  • compare infiltration and controlled ventilation and identify the benefits of controlled ventilation
  • review strategies for providing mechanical ventilation in accordance with ASHRAE 62.2 standard
  • understand methods commonly used to perform air sealing in homes
  • understand common methods and materials used to insulate existing homes
