Build Useful AI Workflows Without Expensive Subscriptions
A beginner-friendly workshop on using free/low-cost speech-to-text and tools to capture your ideas and turn them into useful outputs.
Location Change Event is now in the Padawan Room 5th floor Omni Hotel
It is easy to spend money on AI before you know what is actually useful.
This workshop is a practical way to start with a workflow that already creates value.
At AIxEDU Austin, we will walk through a real process for turning important recorded conversations into something you can actually use later. The core flow is simple:
record a conversation -> move the audio to your computer -> transcribe it -> pull out the useful signal -> save the result locally
This is not a generic AI tools talk.
It is not a hype session.
It is not just a speech-to-text demo.
It is a hands-on workshop built around a concrete outcome:
one saved structured note created from one real conversation, recording, or transcript.
That note can include:
- decisions
- action items
- risks
- opportunities
- follow-up questions
- next steps
We will cover where free browser tools are enough, where local/open-source tools are useful, and when paying for a premium AI tool is actually worth it.
This workshop is beginner-friendly and absolutely works for AI beginners.
The key fit is not whether someone is advanced with AI. The key fit is whether they have important conversations in their work, studies, projects, or planning and want a better way to capture what mattered.
You do not need to know how to code. You do not need a paid AI account to attend. If you are new to AI, this is a concrete workflow-first way to get started.
What we’ll cover:
- How to build a practical workflow before paying for expensive subscriptions
- How to turn a recorded conversation into a transcript
- How to pull useful signal from the raw text
- How to save the output on your computer in a reusable format
- When free tools are enough, when local/private tools help, and when a premium upgrade makes sense
What attendees will leave with:
- one transcript or transcript excerpt
- one structured extraction prompt
- one saved structured note on their computer
- one workflow they can run again on the next real call, meeting, class, or project
What to bring:
- Laptop
- Google account
- One short recording, transcript excerpt, or willingness to use a provided sample
Important notes:
- If you record real conversations, make sure you have consent from everyone involved and use good judgment around privacy.
- Do not bring highly sensitive material unless you are comfortable working with it in the room.
- If you do not want to use real audio, you can participate with a transcript excerpt or sample transcript.
No coding required. No paid AI subscription required.
