KCMO is cutting what little support they were doing for  entrepreneurs.  The only way to get them to invest more is to show up and tell them

Despite our small business &amp; entrepreneur community providing 60% of the city&#x27;s net new jobs, the city has refused to invest in supporting entrepreneurs in a meaningful way. This is why we rank 49th out of 50 in several national lists of places to grow a business. To make matters worse, the city just cut even more funding for small business (as well as defunding the Office of Arts &amp; Culture, and the Film Office that has brought in $150m in economic activity this past year). Want to know how much is allocated in the 2020 budget to directly support and grow entrepreneurs &amp; small businesses this year? $250k. Yes, that&#x27;s not a typo - you read that correctly. Despite paying hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes to the city each year, and creating 60% net new jobs, hiring people that actually live in the neighborhoods, and reinvesting in building strong communities - we get tossed 14/1000th of 1% of the budget. Meanwhile, they completely disregarded our $2m plan that would help provide access to affordable Direct Primary Care for entrepreneurs AND those working for them, allow us to bring in global product marketing experts to help our companies compete on a global scale (thus creating more jobs), invest in support systems for entrepreneurs who feel the weight of the world on their shoulders, and - one of the things we&#x27;re proudest of - leveraging that money to get the additional capital to create a multi-million dollar fund that would be able to lend the entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses but banks won&#x27;t lend to because they don&#x27;t have &quot;collateral&quot; in the old sense of the word. Among many other things we would be able to accomplish. But wait...isn&#x27;t the city expecting way more money this year versus last year?While slashing our already tiny crumbs, the city reported a projected budget increase of $41.8m ...$30.4m of which comes from increases in tax buckets that entrepreneurs pay into. Not only are we not acknowledged anywhere as a source of growth, but we are are treated like we don&#x27;t exist while they take our hard-earned money and redistribute it to EVERYONE except us! THE ONLY WAY WE CAN STOP THIS IS BY SHOWING UP AT THE CITIZEN FEEDBACK HEARING ON THE BUDGET (THIS SATURDAY OR TUESDAY), WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE, AND TELLING THEM THAT WE DEMAND THAT THEY INVEST SOME OF OUR OWN MONEY IN US!
