This training provides an experiential introduction to effective compassion-driven Buddhist Psychology inspired interventions for clinicians

This training introduces Buddhist Psychology for clinicians, focusing on mindfulness and reciprocity as tools for acceptance and wisdom. Apply these skills personally to reinforce human connection and therapeutic trust.

Join Dr. Marianela Medrano, Psychotherapist and Certified Mindfulness Meditation teacher, in practicing a range of meditative and centering techniques suitable for use in therapy and self-care, including sitting, walking, and standing, while learning the difference between focusing the mind and noticing thoughts.

Clinicians will be able to design clear, easy-to-understand compassion-driven interventions that incorporate these integrated concepts for a comprehensive therapeutic approach.

Two articles will be provided to read prior to the training.

*Please note that a lunch break is scheduled from 12pm-1pm.

6 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the training, participants will:

-gain a clear understanding of key Buddhist Psychology principles and distinguish mindfulness as a central clinical tool.

-develop practical skills and mindfulness exercises for direct integration into therapy sessions.

-clearly identify the three poisons that contribute to suffering and learn their antidotes.

-develop the ability to recognize these patterns in clients and apply targeted interventions during sessions to effectively support them.

-practice a range of meditative and centering techniques suitable for use in therapy and self-care. Discover how to guide clients toward achieving greater grounding for enhanced therapeutic outcomes.

-develop a clear, easy-to-understand explanation of mindfulness for clients. Practice sharing mindfulness concepts using language that is accessible and supportive for client comprehension.

-learn essential strategies for combining therapeutic writing with mindfulness. Acquire specific methods for facilitating client reflective writing within a therapeutic context.

-synthesize the interconnections among the three marks of existence, four noble truths, eightfold path, four foundations of mindfulness, and four limitless qualities. Clinicians will be able to design interventions that incorporate these integrated concepts for a comprehensive therapeutic approach.

In accordance with the NY State Department of Education guidelines, in order to receive continuing education contact hours, a participant needs to be present for the duration of the workshop/training. Therefore, participants who arrive late or leave the event early will not be granted a certificate of completion.

Dr. Marianela Medrano was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and has lived in Connecticut since 1990. A poet and a writer of nonfiction and fiction, she holds a Ph.D. in psychology. Her literary work has appeared in anthologies and magazines in Latin America, Europe, and the United States. She is the founder of Palabra Counseling & Training Center, LLC.

Dr. Medrano is a certified Mindfulness Meditation teacher and mindful eating instructor. She is a mentor/supervisor for the International Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy, IFBPT. In 2023, she was awarded a grant by the Bess Family Foundation to research interspecies care. She loves the earth and is committed to caring for the pluriverse until her last breath.

Dr. Medrano has lectured in many countries, including Spain, India, Colombia, El Salvador, Panamá, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
