Brownfields 101

New Jersey Institute of Technology Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program (NJIT TAB) is a technical assistance program, funded through a cooperative agreement with the USEPA, which is intended to serve as an independent resource to state, regional, county, tribal and local governments; community organizations; and nonprofits attempting to clean up and reclaim brownfields.

Learn how you can be a leader that will align the community’s needs and vision for land reuse and redevelopment.   Brownfields offer opportunities for communities to clean up old industrial sites (and sites “not-so-industrial”), resolve historic environmental liabilities an reposition the property for beneficial reuse.  
 
The city of Hallowell is convening experts from across the region to build Hallowell’s capacity to clean up and redevelop brownfield sites. Join nationally recognized speakers from the NJIT TAB Team, state and local government in an interactive opportunity for participants to learn the basics of brownfields, and gain more in-depth knowledge as we take a deeper dive into brownfield redevelopment. The brownfields basics will include the definition of brownfields; a discussion of why there are so many brownfield sites; a brief overview of the brownfield assessment, remediation, and redevelopment processes; examples of brownfields that have been successfully redeveloped; a discussion of grant and funding programs, as well as information on the free assistance that the TAB Program can provide to support brownfield-impacted communities.
