About UsImagine Swimming, for children ages 4-months and up, was founded in 2002 by former world-class swimmers Casey Barrett and Lars Merseburg. Originally operated out of the Hunter College pool on 69th Street and Park Avenue, the school has grown to 14 New York locations - with nine pools in Manhattan and five pools in Brooklyn. Imagine is now New York City's largest learn-to-swim school, with its very own Flagship facility in TriBeCa. Currently, the school welcomes over 4,000 students each week to its pools. At every age, we encourage swimmers to share their responses with each other, creating small aquatic classrooms, each swim class with its own unique energy.Like many of NYC’s top preschools, Imagine Swimming has absorbed the teachings of Reggio Emilia, the Italian educational philosophy that places great respect on children’s imaginations and their interaction with the natural world. We hope to raise awareness about the importance of access to life-saving swim instruction for all children within the community.
All children need to attend with an adult parent or caregiver present for the duration of the event. Participants will need to bring suits and towels. Prior swimming experience is NOT required. Children should come with their suits already on under their clothes to minimize changing time - and maximize swimming time!
 
Format
There will be two one-hour sessions (12PM-1PM, 1PM-2PM), accommodating up to 30 children per session. Part of each session will be done on land, with the goal of teaching children how to keep themselves safe in and around the water. The remainder of each session will take place in the water, where participants will be divided into groups based on their swimming ability. There will be no more than four students per instructor, with lifeguards and additional support staff on deck. Each group will receive a swim lesson tailored to their particular needs, with a focus on safety and self-rescue skills.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes. The required age bracket is 6 to 10 year old elementary school aged children.
