About this event
Instructor - Barbara Sitar
Fluent in various arts and crafts, Barbara is a versatile sculptor, painter and art mentor with interest in Alchemy and Visionary art. Her career as a gallerist, curator and artist spans between Prague and Boston. Unique set of combined skills materialize in her own artwork and teaching practice.
Class Description
Are you interested in discovering and learning new skills in one session?
This intense journey will result in creation of your own unique Bronze Amulet, that you will sculpt and cast yourself.
This class will teach developing personal design pattern, sculpting in polymer clay, using clay pattern to build sand mold, casting the pattern in bronze and finishing with cutting and polishing tools.
Class content:
* Introduction into clay-sculpting your personal Amulet from imagination inspired by provided symbolic imagery.
* Constructing a sand-casting mold of your unique pattern, made with Petrobond sand.
* Melting bronze in Electro-Melt and pouring metal into the mold to create unique casting of the personal pattern.
* Finishing the Amulet by grinding and polishing.
Material Fee
The materials fee for this class is $25. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments in cash or through Venmo.
Class Goals
* Students will learn art history of amulet.
* Skills learned: clay sculpting, sand mold building around the pattern, sand-casting/pouring bronze into the mold, finishing the casted art piece.
* By the end of class students will become familiar with the complete process of sand-casting.
Material Supplied
Clay, sculpting and mold making tools, molds, Petrobond sand, bronze, finishing tools. Safety leather aprons, gloves, glasses and other tools are provided.
Students Should Bring
Closed-toe shoes. Natural fiber clothing, long sleeves and pants. Hair tied back, no loose jewelry or clothing. This class is not suitable for children. In case of ambivalence in final casting process, we can pour the metal into your mold for you.
Prerequisites
Students must be 18 years old or older.

Frequently asked questions
Students may withdraw from a class up to 7 days prior to the start of the class via Eventbrite’s refund feature. In extenuating circumstances, students may contact education@artisansasylum.com to request an exception.
To request a class or ticket transfer, either use the “contact the organizer” feature offered by Eventbrite or email Education@artisansasylum.com with your name, ticket information, and transfer request. Transfer requests are approved on a case-by-case basis.
Artisans Asylum reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes in the event the minimum number of students for the class is not reached, an emergency, such as illness, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. Communication for canceled and rescheduled classes is sent via email.
If another class is available at a later date, or if the class has been rescheduled, your class fee will automatically apply to the next class session unless the session is already full or you specifically request a refund. No refunds are given for changes to location or Instructor.
All students under 18 must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of an adult.
We occasionally capture photos of students during our classes to use in promotional materials, online, and on social media platforms. By enrolling in a class, you are giving us permission to do so.
