About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

"Bringing Baby Home", is a program, from the Gottman Institute, and seeks to help parents understand the possible challenges of life with a new baby and the transition into parenthood, be it for the first or subsequent time.

Over 6 weeks "Bringing Baby Home" aims to help parents to understand what successful couples do, and to practise the skills to maintain friendship, regulate conflict and improve the quality of parent-infant interaction and the emotional environment for their baby and children.

"We really enjoyed the course and learning about how to preserve our relationship rather than something else baby related. Really intersting course content that I've found incredibly useful, even before the baby is here. Have recommended to friends as there is never anything else about our relationship and the transition to parents, its all focusing on how to be parents and take care of a little one. Extremely benefical to all couples having a baby! Thank you Katie for a great course, delivered brilliantly!" Jan/Feb Participant.

Research shows that families who have participated in the program experience:

• A significantly lower rate of postpartum mood disorders and depression

• A decrease in relationship hostility

• A higher level of relationship satisfaction

• A decreased likelihood of divorce/relationship dissolution

The content of the programme evolved from Dr. Gottman's over 50 years of marriage and family research and is designed to teach parents to:

⦁ Increase friendship in their relationship

⦁ Deal effectively with conflict

⦁ Keep each parent/ caregiver involved in infant care and parenting

⦁ Improve the quality of parent-infant interaction

⦁ Recognise the psychological and emotional needs of their child

⦁ Co-parent effectively

Topics covered each week:

1. What do "successful" couples do to keep love alive?

2. How to be friends while sleep deprived & grumpy

3. Practical ways to manage stress and overwhelm.

4. The art of regulating conflict & having a ‘good’ argument!

5. Keeping love & intimacy alive

6. Creating OUR family dream
