Get ready to Bring the Heat with our Second Annual Salsa Making Contest! This in-person event is happening on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 4000 Sion Farm, Christiansted, St Croix 00820. We're looking for the best salsa makers to come and compete for the title of Salsa Champion. Whether you like it mild or spicy, fruity or savory, we want to taste it all! This is a great opportunity to show off your culinary skills, meet new people, and have some fun. So gather your ingredients, bring your A-game, and let's see who can bring the most heat and flavor!
Categories for Red, Green, & Pico De Gallo. Prizes awarded for:
- Best Overall Homemade Salsa
- Crowd Favorite Overall (public voting)
- Best Red Salsa
- Best Green Salsa
- Best Mystery Salsa
Entries will be judged on four criteria:
- Appearance
- Color
- Aroma
- Taste
Entry fee is $20.00, $10.00 of each entry will be donated to Island Center for the Performing Arts.
Rules
- Salsas must be freshly prepared in advance (you will not be making on site)
- All food safety guidelines must be followed when preparing and serving
- Must provide enough salsa and tasting vehicles (spoons, chips, tortillas, etc.) for at least 75 people and 5 judges
- Containers for judges will be provided for uniformity and to ensure blind tasting
- Contestants must provide recipes to judges with your assigned number only as a designator (1 secret ingredient is permitted)
- Registration deadline is June 7, 2024, by 5:00 pm. NO ONSITE REGISTRATION.
- Contestants must provide tablecloths or any other decorative items they wish for their table
- Contestants must be set up by 4:30 pm
- Service and tasting to the public will begin at 5:00 pm
- The public will also be judging on their overall favorite by ballot entry
- Blind judging will begin at 6:00 pm
- Winners will be announced at 8:00 pm
- N O REFUNDS. If you enter and then cannot make the event, no refund will be issued. If you did not read the entire description and accidentally paid as a contestant, but do not intend to enter, you must contact us within 24 hours to receive a refund of $10.00.
