Interviews include multiple generations—providing both a historical and current context about their community. Throughout the film are original works from Walter Patton and youth poets from the King Kennedy Boys and Girls Club Baby Lit Hip Hop program and the FreshLo (Fresh, Local, and Equitable) One Garden Valley Initiative, led by Environmental Health Watch.Bridging The Gap was developed as an extension and evaluation tool for The Kresge Foundation funded FreshLo One Garden Valley Initiative, a partnership originated between Environmental Health Watch, Garden Valley Neighborhood House, Rid-All Urban Farm, and Fresh by Nature Records. The team specializes in the fight against genocide and mental illness. FreeThinkers offer youth development such as reading, sports, film, and fashion. The goal is to make the younger adults into entrepreneurs, business owners and raise the economy amongst the community. Walter has written seven short films and directed over 30 music videos. Bridging the Gap was coordinated and directed by, Walter Patton. The authentic voices of residents and people of color from the Central/Kinsman community are represented in the film, showcasing experiences from their own perspectives. Interviews conducted by Mr. Patton, who is also a Central community resident, were intentionally planned to include multiple generations that provide both a historical and current context about their community. Integrated throughout the film are original works from Walter Patton, Keisha Nicole Foster, and local youth poets out of the King Kennedy Boys and Girls Club Baby Lit Hip Hop program (Developed by Samantha Flowers and Walter Patton). This established relationship between Environmental Health Watch has provided the opportunity for Mr. Patton to direct and lead projects and build capacity creating for the first time, a film of this length.Kim Foreman Environmental Health Watch Executive Director, Producer and Co-DirectorKim Foreman Graduated from Case Western Reserve University   in 2001 with a degree in Sociology (honors), and a minor in chemistry. As the Executive Director for Environmental Health Watch in Cleveland, Kim has focused on Environmental Justice issues and adverse outcomes of environmental exposures both indoors and outdoors, that disproportionately impact poor and minority communities. During her 20+ years with EHW, she has developed, implemented and managed various local, direct service on the ground grassroots projects, worked on national projects, spoken at local and national conventions, and has appeared on several radio and television shows. She has been interviewed by the Plain Dealer, New York Times and featured in the Aljazeera English documentary, “Poison in Our Walls”. Major projects: Administrator for the Lead Safe Cleveland Resource Center (2020), The National BUILDHealth Challenge rounds 1.0 and 2.0; The National Kresge FreshLo Program, HFFI Food Cooperative Planning Initiative for Central/Kinsman, Youth Farmers Leadership Program; Easy Does It Cooking Classes I and II; Green Houses and Greenhouses Project; Neighborhood Leadership for Environmental Health Project; Race, Food &amp; Justice Conference 2013/2014/2016/18; Case Western Reserve University Prevention Research Center Fellow; Invest In Children Research Project; Urban Mold &amp; Moisture Research Project; Tenants for Healthy Housing Project; Cockroach Allergen Reduction Research Project; Various Healthy Homes/ Lead Prevention /Asthma Trigger Control Outreach and Education Projects. In 2013 Kim completed the Deep Green and Healthy Homes-Occupant Interview Study for the Case Western Reserve Prevention Research Center PEER Research Fellows Program. Awards: 2019 Cleveland Champions (Guardian/ Cleveland Plain Dealer), 2019 Ohio Environmental Council Community Collaboration Award, 2019 Ohio State Legislature Environmental Achievement Award, 2019 Cleveland City Council Resolution of Appreciation. Kim is a licensed lead risk assessor, and Roots of Success instructor. She has served on several boards and advisory committees: U.S. Water Alliance Equity Task Force, Equity Analysis on National Lead Policy Task Force, UH RB&amp;C Community Advisory Board, Center for Achieving Equity (formerly Cuyahoga Place Matters Team), NEORSD External Advisory Board, GUC CHAT Co-Chair, National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition, Rid-All Green Partnership Member, Healthy House Advisory Council Member, Neighborhood Leadership Cleveland Graduate Class #18.Samantha Flowers Fresh By Nature Records, FreshLo InstructorSamantha &quot;Playne Jayne&quot; Flowers has been an integral piece in Cleveland&#x27;s hip-hop scene for over a decade. Flowers is a founding member of hip hop groups LMNTL and FreshProduce. and co -founder of Fresh By Nature Records.  FreshProduce. has self- released five albums, toured France in 2016 and has been crowned Best Of Hip Hop by Cleveland Scene Magazine in 2019. Samantha has worked with youth in the Central and Slavic village communities since 2015 creating hip hop programs focusing on artistic expression, mastery and career and skill development. Sonya Shephard Community Activist, Former Garden Valley ResidentSonya Terell Shepherd the younger of two, born January 15, 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio raised in the Garden Valley/ Kinsman area. A mother of 2 sons and grandmother of 2 granddaughters. Sonya graduated from South High School in June of 1994, in 2010, graduated from the Academy of Court Reporting &amp; Technology with an Associate of Applied Business degree in Criminal Justice. For the past 20 years Sonya has been employed as a Professional Bus Driver, and now an administrative assistant for the Cleveland Schools Transportation Department. During the summer months she commits to working with the City of Cleveland as a lunch monitor, distributing lunches at various recreation centers and playgrounds throughout the Cleveland Metropolitan area. Still actively involved in the community of Garden Valley as a community organizer/liaison, working with children of various age groups ranging in ages 5-18 years, as the coordinator of the Garden Valley Falcons football team for the past 25 years as a parent advocate. She volunteers at the Rainbow Terrace Learning Center in various capacities, and a member of the FreshLo steering committee assisting with the community outreach programs. Awards: 2019 H.E.A.R.T (Hear, Empathize, Apologize, Respond, Thank the person) award, recognition from the transportation department in 2018. She is currently working on a bachelor’s degree at Devry University in the field of Criminal Justice.Demetrius Carter Central Resident, Community ActivistDemetrius Carter is a father, community leader, activist, veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and an artist. He was born in raised in the Central Community. His goal in life has been to break the cycle of poverty since the age of ten. He feels the need to help and overstands how much the residents of the City of Cleveland need, but also the world.ZRi Hitchcock Entrepreneur, FreshLo Team LeadZRi is a Black female entrepreneur, pre-med student at Cleveland State University and community volunteer. She is a food, environmental, social, and animal justice advocate who is passionate about obliterating the current health disparities among Black women in the public and private healthcare sector.
