Bridging the Gap: Using Reading Research to Shift Misconceptions & Support

Bridging the Gap: Using Reading Research to Shift Misconceptions & Support

Online event
Monday, Mar 9 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm CDT
Overview

Challenge myths about adolescent literacy, align with research, and strengthen Tier 1 support for struggling secondary readers.

Too many adolescent students who struggle with reading are not receiving the support they need—not because the research is lacking, but because misconceptions about older readers remain widespread and deeply held. In this session, participants will examine four common misconceptions about adolescent literacy, ground each in current research, and explore how to translate this understanding into productive conversations with Tier 1 colleagues to strengthen core instruction and better support struggling readers in secondary settings. Led by Katie Keown, PhD (candidate), Literacy Director at Student Achievement Partners, this session bridges research and practice to improve outcomes for older students.

NOTE: This meeting will not be recorded.

Free & open to the public

1.5 CEU hours available
