    Who should attend: Mental health counselors, professional counselors, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, addiction counselors, and other helping professions

    Earn: Six (6) continuing education hours *

    This training equips mental health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to break down barriers and provide affirming and effective support to LGBTQ+ individuals seeking mental health services. Join us either in person at the Baker Free Library or by zoom (link to be emailed after registration) and earn 6 CEU's.

    Attendees will discuss and learn about:

    1. Challenges with Traditional Models: Traditional mental health approaches often fail to adequately address the specific concerns and experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals. This section examines the limitations and biases inherent in these models.
    2. Culturally-Sensitive Engagement: The training emphasizes the significance of adopting culturally-sensitive approaches that honor the diversity of identities and experiences within the LGBTQIA+ community. Participants learn strategies for creating inclusive and affirming spaces where individuals feel safe to express themselves authentically.
    3. Understanding Wants and Needs: By exploring the unique wants and needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals, participants gain a deeper understanding of the factors that contribute to mental health disparities within this community. This section highlights the importance of actively listening to LGBTQIA+ voices and incorporating their perspectives into mental health interventions.
    4. Trauma-Informed Approaches: Recognizing the prevalence of trauma within the LGBTQIA+ community, the training introduces trauma-informed approaches aimed at providing sensitive and supportive care. Participants learn how to create environments that promote healing and resilience, taking into account the intersectionality of identities and experiences.
