NOTE: This event is in-person only.

In an effort to address the ongoing epidemic of firearm violence in our city, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) has supported the development of a violence prevention ecosystem across the city of Baltimore. Leveraging the work of hospital-based violence intervention programs including the Johns Hopkins Break the Cycle Hospital Violence Intervention Program (BC-HVIP), Safe Streets, and other community-based violence intervention organizations, this rich network can make an impact in the lives of Baltimoreans at risk of firearm injury. Despite this rich tapestry of expertise and resources, many challenges exist to truly actualizing the incredible potential of this ecosystem.

In collaboration with the Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Gun Violence Solutions the BC-HVIP is honored to host a summit to convene stakeholders from across the city that comprise this robust ecosystem in the first of many conversations about how to work collaboratively to reach our goal of reducing firearm injury in Baltimore. Coinciding with the National Gun Violence Awareness day (June 2nd) and kicking off “Wear Orange Weekend” wherein we honor survivors and remember victims of gun violence, this summit will focus on developing collaborative strategies to help break the cycle of violence that has plagued Baltimore for decades.

Specifically, the objectives of the conference are to:

1. Convene a diverse, intersectional group of stakeholders to share information, highlight best practices, and foster collaboration in order to build upon existing relationships and forge new ones to fortify the work of the respective organizations.

2. Identify ways to leverage the strengths and talents of individuals and organizations that constitute the ecosystem in order to maximize impact of the collective.

3. Bring awareness to the needs of survivors of firearm injury, their families, and the workforce that supports them.

By uniting hospital-based and community-based teams, we will create a shared understanding of the issues we face and develop a shared vision and plan for how we will work together to confront those issues and break the cycle of violence in our city. We will do all this while centering on the voices that matter most: survivors of violence and their families.
