The guitar and clarinet duo of Alessndro Penezzi and Nailor Proveta bubbles with delicious subtlety within their brand of virtuosity. Penezzi’s original compositions bring you right into the warmth of Brazil with exotic sounds and rhythmic beauty. Penezzi is a virtuoso on 7-string guitar but also plays tenor guitar, cavaquinho, mandolin, soprano guitar, flute and percussion. Nailor Proveta plays clarinet and soprano saxophone and is venerated as one of Brazil’s greatest musicians today, lending his silky tone and spontaneity to a host of beautiful compositions guaranteed to leave you feeling like you just returned from Brazil.
Their acclaimed recording Velha Amizade (“Old Friendship”) is a celebration of the friendship between these two musicians, resulting in a marvelous album of virtuosic interplay and expresses the beauty of both traditional and contemporary choro.
Nailor Proveta is the director of the acclaimed Banda Mantiqueira, featuring a roster of São Paulo’s most outstanding players. He has received two Grammy nominations and has toured with Hermeto Pasqual and many others. Multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Penezzi began playing at the age of 7, and has recorded over 20 CDs of his music with artists such as Yamandu Costa and Alexandre Ribeiro. Regarded as choro music royalty, Proveta and Penezzi are guaranteed to take your breath away.
