The Uncorked Vintage Academia is Austin's ONLY Certified Bourbon Establishment, and a Stave & Thief Society approved course provider for the Bourbon Steward Certification - and we're bringing it to Lake Charles!


This Certified Bourbon Steward membership is a hands-on program for Bourbon enthusiasts from all walks of life. This immersive program is designed so that once you’re a Bourbon Steward, you’ll be able to discuss America’s native spirit confidently and accurately, as well as be able to make recommendations to friends, family, and others based on their individual taste and preferences.

-What makes a Bourbon a Bourbon, and how it is different from other domestic and world whiskies.

-What the different descriptors of bourbon mean.

-The science behind distilling and aging.

-Identify Kentucky’s heritage brands and which distilleries produce them.

-Accurate bourbon history, including Kentucky’s role in its creation.

-The Official Bourbon Steward Handbook (softcover), by Stave & Thief Society, accredited by Moonshine University.

-A hands on laboratory tasting of key Bourbon types and styles to connect theory points, in a flight of minimum 12 hand picked samples varying from: White Dog, Corn Whisky, Kentucky Bourbon vs Texas Bourbon, Straight Bourbon, Small Batch, Single Barrel, Barrel Proof, Bottled in Bond, Sweet vs. Sour Mash, Cask Finishing, and Tennessee Whisky - subject to change.

- Bourbon Tasting Journal (for over 100 entries!)

-Professional Sensory Evaluation Techniques (for Neat and Straight spirits) from Certified Executive Bourbon Steward and lead Instructor (bio below).

- An official Stave & Thief Society logo Glencairn glass, or Uncorked Vintage Academia logo glass (pending availability).

-A "Bourbon Whisky Scholar" course certificate of completion issued by Uncorked Vintage Academia (member of the Stave & Thief Society, the Society of Wine Educators, the United States Bartenders' Guild)

- On-line examination access code (exam may be done on students' own cellphone/computer right after class, or at home at a later date).

- Multiple choice theory exam needs a score of 80% to pass and receive Stave & Thief Society Bourbon Steward Certification and lapel pin.

-A crossed thieves lapel pin (upon course completion and successful examination - to be shipped directly from Stave & Thief Society HQ)
