Botanical Printmaking Workshop

Get in touch with the natural world & printmaking—join us at the Tacoma Armory, Suite 15 for a fun and creative Botanical Printmaking Workshop! Tacoma printmaker, Yoshi Nakagawa, will guide you through the process of rolling on oil-based ink on the plants with a brayer, and handprinting proofs and at least two washi (mulberry paper) prints to take home. We can add color with water-based pigments. This is a technique you can do at home once you have the materials and even print on textiles and fabric. Be a naturalist & artist with no experience necessary!

Frequently asked questions

What should we bring to the workshop?

All art materials are included in the enrollment fee, but you are welcome to bring your own plant cuttings freshly harvested or dried & pressed. Also bring a lunch and apron or clothes you don't mind getting oil-based ink on.

Which entrance of the Tacoma Armory leads to Suite 15?

Please enter the building through the side entrance facing South 11th Street. There'll be a greeter to let you in between 9:45-10 am—the doors lock when closed.

What parking is available?

There's free street parking around the Tacoma Armory and also a $15 all day lot close by.

What precautions should we know about the process?

Oil-based ink can get messy, so children must come with an adult. Please be aware of non-toxic chemical sensitivities with ink, Simple Green, and vegetable oil for cleaning, and allergies to pollen or any plants. Please also be mindful of over harvesting and handling thorns & nettles.

Is there a waitlist when the workshop is full?

Yes, if the workshop is full, there'll be an option to be on the waitlist. Sometimes there are cancellations weeks before or week of the workshop.

What is the cancellation refund policy?

Refunds up to 5 days before the workshop, Eventbrite's fee is nonrefundable. There may be folks on the waitlist who want your spot!

What's included in the $75 enrollment fee?
