Eliot Fisk LIVE!

JUNE 30th at 7:30 pm

“THE LETTER B”

Boston Gutair Fest Co-Director Eliot Fisk offers another one of his signature solo recitals, reflecting his status as the last direct disciple of the legendary Andres Segovia.

Delve into a unique program this year, inspired mainly by the Boston GuitarFest theme:

“The letter B” begins and closes with delightful Latin American favorites in popular style by Agustin Barrios, "Estudios Sencillos" by his lifelong friend and colleague, Leo Brouwer, to be followed (by popular demand ) by the fiendishly complex and revolutionary: "Sequenza XI" by Luciano Berio, written for and dedicated to Eliot Fisk. J. S. Bach’ste (BWV 1009) is also on the program in one of Fisk’s acclaimed transcriptions. This is Third Cello Suite guitar virtuosity at its poetic best, combining the great romantic tradition with the most daring flights of fancy of modernity.

Eliot Fisk, an icon of classical guitar with over 60 years of unparalleled artistry, graces the stage. Experience the magic of his mastery as he takes you on a musical journey through the centuries of guitar artistry. Don't miss this rare opportunity to witness a true virtuoso at work, captivating hearts and minds with every sublime note.

ABOUT

Eliot Fisk was the last direct pupil of Andres Segovia and also studied interpretation with the legendary harpsichordist Ralph Kirkpatrick at Yale University, from which he graduated “summa cum laude” in 1976, and where, directly following his graduation in 1977, he founded the guitar department at the Yale School of Music.

Described by one New York Times headline as a “Fiery Missionary to the Unconverted”, Eliot Fisk is Professor at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, where he teaches in 5 languages, and in Boston at the New England Conservatory where in 2010 he received the Krasner Award as “Teacher of the Year.”

In June 2006, King Juan Carlos of Spain, awarded Eliot the “Cruz de Isabel la Católica” for his service to the cause of Spanish music. Earlier recipients of this honor have included Andres Segovia and Yehudi Menuhin.
