Malden Reads is a community reading program that seeks to discover what could happen if all of Malden read the same book. Organized by community groups, city leaders, and residents, in collaboration with the Malden Public Library and Urban Media Arts (UMA), the program invites the community to read the same book and participate in a series of events related to the book’s themes. The goals of the program are to promote literacy, a love of reading, and an appreciation of city resources, but most of all, to build community in the city of Malden.

Idle Hands Craft Ales

Join our discussion of this year’s Malden Reads selection, “They Called Us Enemy” a graphic memoir by George Takei. This year we return to Idle Hands Craft Ales at 89 Commercial St. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the bar. This is a 21+ venue. A dinner of specialty pizza and salad is available for the ticket price of $12.00. Discussion prompts can be found on the tables to lead the book discussion. We'll form small groups at the tables. Copies of the book are available on loan at the Malden Public Library, or for sale at Gallery @57. You call also purchase a copy at your favorite local bookseller or online retailer.Please make your reservation through EventBrite to ensure available space and food.
