About the book:

Well hello, buddy.

In videos that have captured the hearts of millions online, Old Time Hawkey, aka Fritz and his dogs Donnybrook and Kris Draper, is always there to offer a hot apple cider or an ice cream sundae on a tough day, to help you drift off to sleep with a story or a retro video game.

Fritz's first cookbook, Old Time Hawkey's Recipes from the Cedar Swamp, features over 100 cozy recipes divided into three categories—indoor, campfire, and companions—with comforting recipes like Pumpkin Pancakes, Dutch Oven Nachos, and Honey Cinnamon Cold Brew.

Everyone has a “cedar swamp.” It could be a childhood home, an old journal, or something as simple as a scent or an old song. This book brings you on an adventure through Fritz's—with simple recipes inspired by three generations of campfires, deer camps, and family gatherings spent in Northern Michigan.

About the author:

Old Time Hawkey, comprised of Fritz and his two dogs, Donnybrook and Kris Draper, have gained a massive following online through their unique approach to...well, everything. Their videos have connected with millions, as they combine many of Fritz’s passions: outdoorsmanship, cooking, old-school movies, sweet dog antics, retro video games, and the Detroit Red Wings. Fritz uses classic ingredients and rustic techniques to produce signature takes on beloved dishes (usually accompanied by a can of cold pop and a rousing game of Super Mario Land). Fritz, Donnybrook, and Kris Draper currently reside in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where all three strive to remain—as always—good boys.

By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business – you’re showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople.

Thank you for supporting Old Time Hawkey and your local independent bookstore!

Frequently asked questions

How do your events work?

For most events, we will begin with an introduction at the start time, followed by a reading or moderated author conversation, an audience Q&A, and finally our book signing portion of the event. However, please check the Eventbrite details for each event for further information.

Do I need to buy a ticket to attend?

For ticketed events that ARE NOT sold out, you may attend the author talk/Q&A without a ticket, though you will not be able to join the signing line without a QR code/wristband. For events that sell out, you MUST have a ticket to enter the event space.

Does my (partner/child/guardian) need a ticket?

For ticketed events that ARE NOT sold out, your +`1 may attend the talk/Q&A and wait in the signing line with you, though they will not be able to get a book signed themselves. For sold out events, each attendee MUST have a ticket. For accessibility concerns, please contact online@bookpeople.com.

Where are you located?

MOST of our events take place at our store at 603 N Lamar Blvd. However, please make sure you check the location for each event, as some events are put on in conjunction with outside venue partners. Please note that our events program is not affiliated with the BookPeople at the AUS airport.

Where do I go when I arrive?

For ticketed events, a staff member will be waiting near the front entrance to check you in and provide you with your event book and signing line wristband. Please have your QR code ready upon arrival. After check-in, you will proceed to the 2nd floor of the store.

What if I already own a copy of the event book?

If the event is NOT sold out, you may attend the talk/Q&A regardless and make a purchase of equal value on-site in order to join the signing line. Please be prepared to show your receipt upon joining. For sold out events, you MUST have a ticket to attend.

What if I already preordered the book from BookPeople?

For ticketed events, if you preordered BEFORE the event was announced, please contact us at online@bookpeople.com. If the event is sold out and you did not preorder before the date the event was posted, we must prioritize customers with Eventbrite tickets.

What if the event is "sold out"?

If we have a waitlist available, Eventbrite will give you an option to join it on the ticket purchase or RSVP page. If the event is sold out AND the waitlist option is unavailable, the waitlist has unfortunately met its cap and we are not accepting further names in an effort to avoid false hope.

What if I can't attend?

We ask that you submit a refund request via Eventbrite 7+ days in advance. You may also keep your ticket and pick up your book at the registers within 30 days of the event. If you know that you cannot attend before purchasing, please place a preorder via bookpeople.com and not via Eventbrite.

Can I order a book to be signed and shipped to me?

Please place an order for the event book via bookpeople.com at least 24 hours before the event and make your request in the order notes field at checkout. Our events and Internet Orders teams will do their best to fulfill your request, if at all possible.
