Bookmark Weaving

Class Description

Bookmark Weaving is a beginner-friendly introduction to weaving. In this free workshop, students will learn how to warp and weave on a mini frame loom. Students will create a hand-woven bookmark, explore the world of natural fibers (with a focus on wool, cotton, silk, and linen), and learn about various types of looms.

Learning Objectives

• Set up a mini frame loom with correct warp tension.
• Use basic weaving techniques, including plain weave, managing tension, and changing colors.
• Identify natural fibers and understand the mechanisms behind their cultivation.
• Identify different types of looms.
• Finish a woven piece from a loom and take home a bookmark!

Instructor - Josie Natarajan ( @josieweaves )

This class is taught by Josie Natarajan, a weaver and writer based in Allston Massachusetts. Natarajan studied textiles at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and her practice works to connect weaving to the history of women, language, and storytelling. In this workshop, Natarajan invites students to see weaving not just as a craft, but as a historical yet relevant medium and as a language for personal narrative.

Target Audience

Adults/Teens/ and Absolute beginners are welcome!

Students are encouraged to bring their own yarn - though not required!
