About this event

Writer Michael Chabon started work on his bestselling debut novel, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, as an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, and the book's characters travel widely around the city. Join writer Sherrie Flick and Hattie Fletcher on this walking tour retracing some notable settings and scenes from the novel and considering how a place inspires story. Please note that Michael Chabon will not be in attendance on this tour.

Additional Information

There are no public restrooms available on this tour. The walking route is easy, and we ask participants to wear good walking shoes. Attendees are not required to bring additional items to the tour; there will be no writing on this tour.

This tour will take place rain or shine. Please be prepared for any type of weather. If there is severe weather on the day of the tour requiring cancellation, participants will be notified by email 2 - 4 hours before the start of the tour.

Meeting Location

Participants should meet in front of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Oakland at the steps to the entrance.

Parking and Transportation

Public parking is available at the Forbes Semple Garage; street parking is also available. If taking public transportation, there is a Pittsburgh Regional Transit stop at Forbes + Bellefield that serves routes 61A, 61B, 61C, 61D, 67, and 69. In the event that the tour is canceled due to severe weather, participants will be refunded to their original form of payment. All other sales are final.

Is this tour like other Walk & Write tours?

This tour will be similar in that it will start and end in nearly the same location. There will also be stops along the way for reading aloud from the author's work. However, the route will be longer and there will be no writing prompts on this tour.

What should I bring with me?

Participants should wear good walking shoes and dress appropriately for an outdoor walk, rain or shine. You are welcome to bring along bottled water for the tour.
