Join <a href="https://www.citadel.edu/root/miss" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Office of Multicultural and International Student Services</a>&#x27; Black History Month Committee for a discussion of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, moderated by Dr. Licia Hendriks, Professor of English. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a biographical exposé by Rebecca Skloot, tracing the story of Henrietta Lacks, a Black woman whose cells survived her death of cervical cancer in 1951 after being harvested and propagated by researchers at Johns Hopkins Hospital with neither her nor her family’s knowledge or consent. The text raises provocative and timely questions about medical ethics, the institutional exploitation of minoritized individuals, and the pervasive cynicism about healthcare within the Black community to this day.
