We nurture initiatives for the good of the whole. Sustainable Solano has grown out of decades of dedicated community work that started with community gardens and has grown to include an emphasis on creating sustainable, regenerative environments, community capacity building, supporting local food systems and building youth leadership and workforce skills for a better future.

Bokashi Composting 101Come join us for a hands-on workshop at the Avant Community Garden to learn all about bokashi composting! This event is perfect for beginners who want to start composting their food scraps in a simple and effective way. Master Gardener Maggie Kolk will guide you through the process step by step, so you can start reducing your waste and nourishing the soil. Bokashi is a Japanese word that means fermented organic matter. The Bokashi composting method involves recycling food scraps and mixing them with a mixture of effective microorganisms, water, sugar, and wheat bran.
