When and where does the class meet?

The class meets at the MIT Sailing Pavilion at 6:00 pm sharp, Sunday May 3, Monday May 4, and Monday May 11.

What does the class cost?

Current MIT students can attend at no charge due to the generous support of the MIT Sailing Pavilion. Non-student members of the MIT Marine Autonomy Lab and Charles River Yacht Club can also attend free. Others can attend for $45 each, payable in advance.

Question 3

What exactly is the certification?

Accepted Answer

The certification, which is issued by the Massachusetts Environmental Police, is proof that the bearer has passed a NASBLA-approved safe boating course. It fulfills the requirement for boater education, where such requirement exists, in all 50 states and territories.

Question 4

Is certification the same as a license?

Accepted Answer

No. Massachusetts does not currently require a recreational boating license, just proof of safety education. Other states may require education (which this course satisfies) and, in addition, a separate license.

When will I receive certification?

You will receive your certification card from the Massachusetts Environmental Police a few weeks after passing the course.
