Join the Center for Nonprofit Leadership for an interactive presentation on the science and art of board governance highlighting the business of the board and engaging board member’s passion for the mission. How does a President &amp; CEO and board chair create board meetings focused on the future? How does a board member gain an understanding of the dynamics in the external environment that impact the organization's mission?The basics of governance best practices include identifying collective and individual expectations, jobs of committees, board policies, monitoring board and CEO performance, and clarity on the board/CEO functions. A board member's service that extends beyond oversight of past performance provides value in constructing a strategic plan focused on the future and creative adaptation to changes in the complex internal and external environments that impact mission and service delivery.Bring with you a typical board agenda or board workplan to review and consider enhancements to move beyond the basics and create a dynamic and engaged board.About the Presenter: Jean Carroll’s 33 years of professional experience at the YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County includes 23 years as President &amp; CEO. Jean has a BS in Accounting and Business Administration, and an MA in Sociology. She serves on Person-Centered Housing Options’ board of directors with a focus on governance. She is also a Fellow on St. John Fisher University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership Advisory Board. She works as a nonprofit consultant in strategic planning and operations for a variety of community agencies, and as adjunct professor in sociology and psychology. She enjoys being outdoors, hiking, biking, gardening, going to concerts and spending time with family and friends.
