BMP Creative Sessions: Method Sampling & Production

Since 2011, the Boston Music Project has delivered high-quality, sequential music education to thousands of Boston youth each year. Through before, after, and in-school programs, BMP supports students from PreK through college with the tools to unleash their musical creativity—whether through strings, brass, woodwinds, piano, or digital music. Join us on May 27th as JooWan Kim and Christopher Nicholas of EMN  offer a session focused on EMN’s ideological framework, Method Sampling.

EMN’s artistic director, JooWan Kim, will offer a session focused on EMN’s ideological framework, Method Sampling; a principle of borrowing or sampling of rationales from related as well as unrelated fields, then reframing them into one&#x27;s own system. This will be anchored with the pieces EMN produced as well as examples of Method Sampling outside of the musical sphere. In addition, EMN executive director, Christopher Nicholas, will join JooWan in listening to musical tracks created by BMP students offering creative feedback in composition, form, orchestration, and production.Proceeds from this series supports Boston Music Project&#x27;s Student Scholarship Fund - ensuring that all BMP youth have access to high-quality music education and social-emotional learning.<a href="https://smarturl.it/723ind" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">About Ensembe Mik Nawooj</a><a href="https://smarturl.it/723ind" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a>Led by composer/pianist, JooWan Kim, Hip-Hop Orchestra Ensemble Mik Nawooj (EMN) creates Metamusic by sampling principles of Hip-Hop and classical. Executed with MC/lyricist Sandman, a lyric soprano, flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano, drums, bass and a featured dancer, the music is rigorous, nuanced, accessible, and free from the dogmas of Western European concert music aesthetic. They have been featured on National Geographic, United Nations, ESPN, Upworthy, NowThis, Pitchfork, Wall Street Journal, NPR, SF Chronicle, OZY and more.
