Blueberry Pruning Workshop

Blueberry Pruning Workshop

2411 Memorial Industrial School RdRural Hall, NC
Monday, Mar 9 from 4:30 pm to 6 pm
Overview

Learn the basics of and get hands-on practice pruning blueberry shrubs.

Join Horticulture Agent, Celine Richard, to learn how to care for your blueberry shrubs from season to season. Blueberries should be prunned annually to reliably produce a high quality crop and maintain bush height to facilitate harvest. Pruning is done during the dormant season, usually between December-early March here in the piedmont. Many people (maybe even you!) are reluctant to prune because it removes some of the flower buds, BUT the berries of un prunned shrubs get increasingly smaller and bush health declines year to year. So consider pruning an investment in the long-term success of your plants!

This workshop will guide participants through the decision process for selecting blueberry canes to be removed to maximize plant health and production for the coming years.

Where: 2411 Memorial Industrial School Rd

HOW TO PREPARE:

  • Dress for cool weather and possibly wet conditions.
  • This workshop is hands-on. Participants are welcome to bring long-handled pruning loppers and gloves of their own, though some tools will be available for use on site as well.
  • Public bathrooms are available down the road at Horizons Park
