An Intimate Night of Jazz in the Heart of Stowe

Sponsored by Westwood International, the Brass Lantern Inn and Firefly Productions bring you ‘Jazz at the Lantern’ a genuine, small jazz club style experience, once a month, in Stowe, Vermont. Join us in June 2024 for Christine Jensen. Reserve a table, order charcuterie or bruschetta and buy a bottle of wine, a beer or a cocktail at the cash bar to enjoy the musicians up close, mingle in the Inn's lounges with its comfy couches, ample decks and lawns with gorgeous views of Mount Mansfield.

About the Performers

Celebrate the start of June with The Blue Gardenias and their timeless harmonies from the American songbook and beyond. Filled with seasoned Vermont professional musicians, the origins of the group started in an unlikely place. “It all started in a bathroom during a 40th birthday party. We needed a spot to rehearse the song ‘Sentimental Journey’ so we could sing it to our friend, Pine Street Jazz guitarist Carl Severance, and our only option was the Lincoln Inn bathroom! From then on, we decided to become a band,” says Amber deLaurentis, who sings in the vocal trio with Juliet McVicker and Taryn Noelle. The trio, along with pianist Tom Cleary will perform a mixture of originals and time honored favorites. “The Blue Gardenias are a dreamy collaboration. We sing classic and quirky songs, with harmonies that are genuine and lush,” says McVicker. The concert will also feature original tunes by Cleary, a Vermont pianist and composer who teaches in the jazz studies program at UVM and plays in a touring band with Phish bassist Mike Gordon. The tunes are excerpts from a song cycle on the life of the early-20th century outlaw Pretty Boy Floyd and the various women who were his lovers and accomplices. McVicker has opened for many vintage songwriters, such as Eric Andersen, Richie Havens, Bill Staines, and David Bromberg. Noelle works throughout the state as a dance teacher and choreographer, as well as an actor and jazz vocalist. And deLaurentis heads the vocal jazz program at the University of Vermont, where she co-directs the UVM Jazz Vocal Ensemble with husband Cleary.

Parking at the Inn is limited, so we suggest parking at the Shaw’s Grocery next door (please avoid the dock area).

We appreciate you pre-ordering bruschetta or charcuterie. Wine and other beverages will be available for purchase on site as well as snacks. Your admission includes free desserts.
