Blockchain and Development Roundtable

The Digital Financial Services Observatory @ CITI morning roundtable on Monday, June 11 2018 will survey emerging foundational issues in the evolving crypto-economy using distribued ledger technologies (DLT). 
DLT is a new type of secure database or ledger that is shared across multiple sites, countries or institutions with no centralized controller. In essence, this is a new way of keeping track of who owns a financial, physical or an electronic asset. The primary underlying technology in DLT is called a blockchain. 
Innovations using blockchain promise enhancements in identity management, capital raising, secure and efficienet payment systems, voting, digital fiat currencies, health care tracking, improvements in the agri value chain, better digital rights management property rights managment, secure share trading amongst others. 
As we are in the foundational stage of a blockchain-derived economy, many perculating issues still need to be resolved however before they can be fully integrated into economies - including how to interoperate blockchains, governance, securty from 51% attacks, fraud from ICOs, and legal and regulatory approaches. And how much of the promised innovations are real, or bubble-type hype?
Our roundtable will include discussions from the SEC and legal and regulatory experts on how regulation of this sector is evolving. Investors similarly will report on early outcomes in the sector, while the focus of their investments - the innovators - will showcase products that are being built on the blockchain. And our development-focussed session will weigh in on where blockchain can impact emerging economies.
Sessions will cover the following: - Blockchain use in development - Investment strategies - The global legal & regulatory impact - Cryptocurrencies & Initial Coin Offerings  - Technical components of blockchains & smart contracts - The macroeconomic effects of crypto-currencies & central-bank issued cryptocurrencies
