Blockchain 101 Onramp: Decentralized Application (DApp) Development Basics

NEAR is a blockchain protocol designed to bridge the adoption gap for mainstream commercial DApps. Designed to linearly scale with number of nodes by sharding (100k tps at 1M nodes, ~1s finality), have wide adoption by running on mobile devices, and security guarantees on the level of best blockchains. To build it, we have assembled a dream team of engineers who implemented sharded distributed systems at scale including 3 early MemSQL engineers, 4 ex-Googlers, 4 gold medals at ACM ICPC and more.

You already have development skills but may not be familiar with how to apply them to creating a decentralized app. In this meetup, we'll provide a practical but concept-driven walkthrough of everything you need to know to get started developing DApps. We'll cover the interaction patterns of DApps versus today's web apps, an overview of the architecture of DApps and the developer stack. We'll take a look at three different platforms for creating DApps and do a walkthrough of one of them. At the end of this, you should have everything you need to get started on your own. While this event is geared specifically towards developers, it will be sufficiently general that any product-oriented person with an understanding of technical architectures will get a lot of value out of it. **About the Blockchain Onramp Series** Blockchain Onramp is a series of events covering the full spectrum of knowledge necessary to operate effectively within the blockchain ecosystem as a designer, developer or product person. After participating in these events, you should be able to take your functional expertise in any of these areas and apply them to blockchain projects. We are doing this to provide a key -- and currently missing -- plain-English onramp for people of all functional experience who are interested in building real businesses on this new technology. The format of each event may differ slightly but they will be a combination of expert talks and discussions with industry practitioners. The rough Blockchain Onramp Series roadmap is: + Product Series: Ecosystem, DApps and Strategy + Design Series: Onboarding UX, Best Practices + Development Series: Developer stack, Building on TestNets, Security, Best Practices + Startup Series: Marketing, Business Models, and Fundraising --- AGENDA --- TBD --- ABOUT THE SPEAKER --- Erik Trautman leads operations at NEAR Protocol, which is a scalable mobile-first blockchain. He has a long history in technical education: he started the popular Odin Project in 2012 and ran Viking Education as its CEO until its acquisition in 2017.
