CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
Blight Bootcamp is a two day event for residents to learn about resources and best practices to increase the impact of community-led blight elimination efforts in Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Taking place on October 7th and 8th, the 2nd annual Blight Bootcamp will focus on three significant areas of blight remediation work: green space projects, building acquisition and improvement, and organization of resident and volunteers in projects. This event provides the learning and growth opportunity to organizations and residents so that they can lead the change in the health and well-being of their neighborhoods. Conference sessions will highlight work from around the city, including this years host neighborhood, Hazelwood.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7th
Workday : An Opportunity to Volunteer

Residents will have the opportunity to lend a hand beautifying Hazelwood during a 2 hour volunteering event, led by local organizations and community groups. Specific sites to be determined, but activities may include litter pick up, fall plantings, garden maintenance, and more!

Celebrate with us in Hazelwood! Come join us for free food, beverages, and games as we come together to share thoughts and ideas on addressing blight in our city. City officials and staff will be in attendance to answer questions you may have regarding problem properties and blight related issues. Your free tickets includes a $5 food voucher entertainment.

Keynote Speaker: Lisa Freeman, Manchester Resident

Lisa Freeman is the Founder and Director of Pittsburgh Struggling Student Association (PSSA) a   501(c)3 nonprofit. During the summer, Lisa manages their social enterprise project called Manchester Growing Together Farm which is located in Manchester. During the academic school year, Lisa Freeman operates a school-based family engagement project inside of Pittsburgh Manchester PreK-8. Lisa has Master degrees in Social Work and Public Administration and is an alumni of the University of Pittsburgh. Lisa Freeman is the spouse of the accomplished Wallace Sapp and the mother of three children; Chelsea, Cellou and Sasha. In her spare time she advocates for the rules and regulations of Housing and Urban Development funded properties to be enforced.
